About this tool

Data Storage Converter

Convert bits, bytes, decimal KB/MB/GB/TB and binary KiB/MiB/GiB/TiB while keeping the two measurement conventions clearly separated.

How to use this converter

  1. Enter the value you want to convert.
  2. Select the source unit and the unit you want to convert to.
  3. Select Convert to calculate the result instantly in your browser.
  4. Use Copy result if you need to paste the conversion into another document or application.

Conversion method

Convert digital storage using clearly labeled decimal and binary units such as MB, GB, MiB and GiB.

Tervilo uses internationally defined relationships for standard physical units. For digital storage, decimal units such as MB and GB are kept separate from binary units such as MiB and GiB. This avoids silently mixing two different measurement conventions.

Why unit labels matter

Some everyday terms are ambiguous across regions. For example, “gallon” can refer to different volume definitions. Tervilo labels the US gallon explicitly in volume conversions so the result can be interpreted correctly.

Accuracy and rounding

The calculator keeps a high-precision intermediate value and formats the displayed result for readability. If you need a result for engineering, laboratory, financial or regulatory work, preserve the unrounded input and verify the required standard and rounding rule for that application.
