About this tool
Salary Calculator
Convert gross salary across common pay frequencies using a 52-week annualization model. Optionally estimate the effect of unpaid holidays and vacation days without calculating taxes or payroll deductions.
Salary Calculator
Convert gross pay between annual, monthly, semi-monthly, bi-weekly, weekly, daily and hourly amounts using your work schedule. This calculator is designed for salary and wage comparisons, not payroll tax calculations.
How the Salary Calculator Works
The calculator annualizes the amount you enter, then derives equivalent pay frequencies. For an hourly or daily rate, your hours per workday and workdays per week determine the annualized gross amount. The standard annualization uses 52 weeks per year and 26 bi-weekly or 24 semi-monthly pay periods.
Gross Salary vs. Take-Home Pay
Gross salary is pay before income tax, payroll taxes, pension or retirement contributions, insurance, and other deductions. Tervilo's Salary Calculator does not estimate take-home pay because deductions vary by country, state, employer and individual circumstances.
Unpaid Holidays and Vacation
The optional adjustment estimates the annual value after subtracting the unpaid holidays and vacation days you enter. Do not enter paid vacation or paid holidays in these fields: paid leave does not reduce gross annual salary.
How to Use the Calculator
- Enter your gross salary or pay rate.
- Select the period the amount represents.
- Enter your normal workday and workweek.
- Optionally enter unpaid holidays and vacation days.
- Select Calculate and compare the equivalent pay periods.
Bi-weekly vs. Semi-monthly Pay
Bi-weekly pay means one payment every two weeks, normally 26 pay periods per year. Semi-monthly pay means two payments per month, normally 24 pay periods per year. They are not interchangeable even though both provide two payments in most months.
Important Limitations
This is a gross-pay conversion calculator. It does not calculate income tax, payroll tax, social insurance, pension contributions, overtime, bonuses, commissions, benefits, local minimum-wage rules or employer-specific deductions. Verify employment and payroll rules for your jurisdiction.
